Over
nearly thirty years as a drum journalist, clinician, and teacher, Rick Van Horn
has offered his experience and wisdom to benefit the lives and careers of
drummers around the world. His personal and professional efforts have also
helped many percussion manufacturers to launch or improve products that make our
playing lives easier and more creative. Now Rick needs our help. His beloved
wife of thirty-eight years, Crystal, has been diagnosed with leukemia.
Crystal is well known to many drummers for her own drum-related activities—primarily
as the stage manager for eighteen straight Modern Drummer Festival Weekends. She
has also been an adjunct faculty member at eight KoSA International Percussion
Workshops, and she has been Rick’s invaluable partner at the Cape Breton
International Drum Festival, the Drum Road Trip, and other educational drumming
events.
Crystal now faces months of hospitalization and extensive treatment. Insurance
will cover only a portion of the expenses, leaving Rick and Crystal with
staggering bills that will cost them their life’s savings…and very possibly
their home. A fund has been established for donations from the drumming
community. Any amount will help—and will be greatly appreciated. Checks and
international bank drafts may be made payable to the Crystal Van Horn Emergency
Fund, and mailed to
218 Hamilton Avenue, Clifton, NJ 07011.
Rick and Crystal Van Horn have touched the lives of thousands of drummers. This
is our chance to say thanks. Please pass the word to as many people as you can.
